As a Senior Design Engineer you contribute to the design, development, and delivery of server and systems software for the Dolby Digital Cinema System

This class-leading system for digital movie playback in theatres is built on world-renowned Dolby hardware and supports dynamic management and streaming of digital cinema content for super-reliable playback. You report to the Senior Project Engineer for the Show Store (digital cinema media player) project as you discover customer requirements, work against technical and schedule challenges, and follow strong software design and process principles. Maintenance and new features blend into the backlog for your team’s agile monthly sprints. New development employs strong object-oriented design to create systems software for Dolbys professional Digital Cinema System. Best of all, you work closely with other great team members in a small, close-knit software group.
You have five or more years of experience in leading-edge server and systems technologies. You are familiar with if not skilled in Java, Linux, media streaming, media file formats, XML, MXF, TCP/IP, Java Native Interfaces (JNI), or embedded systems.
Essential Job Functions
- Creates original software designs and modular, reliable, well-organized code which balances resource efficiency for the particular application.
- Leads software design reviews.
- Uses established software tools (design, development, debugging) and technologies (operating systems, libraries, packages) with expertise.
- Contributes ideas for new technologies, tools, or methods applicable to assigned tasks and serves as conduit for new technology development.
- Provides technical assistance and expertise to other team members, management, and Marketing.
- Identifies milestones, estimates effort, and reports to group leader or senior project leader on progress, roadblocks, and risks for assigned projects.
Education, Skills, Abilities, and Experience Required
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science plus five years of relevant professional experience.
- Good verbal and written skills.
- Skilled in at least two technology areas such as Java, Linux, media streaming, media file formats, XML, MXF, TCP/IP, Java Native Interfaces (JNI), or embedded systems.
- Strong Object-Oriented software design skills and able to express ideas using good OO principles
