Executive Leadership TeamJames John Chief Operating Officer James John serves as Chief Operating Officer at Beyond.com, Inc. In his new role, Jim will be responsible for the development and management of Beyond.com’s enterprise-wide business development and operational divisions to support its business expansion plans, which includes the build-out of the Beyond.com Network and further penetration of the online classified space. Jim brings over 25 years of experience in international financial services and technology to Beyond.com, with expertise in P&L accountability, thought-leadership, committed client focus and demonstrated team leadership. Prior to joining Beyond.com, Inc., Jim served as President of Parente Randolph’s Technology division in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was later promoted to Chief Administrative Officer. His duties included the development and deployment of an enterprise information management system to streamline business processes across the organization, as well as management of Parente Randolph’s administrative divisions including Marketing, Information Technology, Human Resources and Finance. During his career, Jim also held several executive positions with top-tier multinational organizations, including: president of the international division of Advanta Corporation, executive vice president of MasterCard International, Inc., COO of an Internet marketing firm, and president and COO of a Top Ten Internet search engine firm. Jim earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from California State University, Fullerton and an MBA in Finance from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Mark Karsch Chief Financial Officer Mark Karsch serves as Chief Financial Officer at Beyond.com, Inc. In his role, Mark will be responsible for all financial and fiscal management aspects of Beyond’s operations including accounting, budgeting, business planning and treasury management, including the proceeds of $13.5 million of Series A financing received from Safeguard Scientifics. Mark brings over 29 years of experience in financial management, operational management, business planning and measurements, mergers and acquisitions, and development of strategic partnerships in rapidly changing, highly competitive markets. Prior to joining Beyond.com, Inc., Mark served as Chief Financial Officer for Escalon Medical Corporation, located in Wayne, PA. His duties included managing all aspects of budgeting and reporting, as well as participating in key strategic initiatives to drive corporate growth and profitability. During his career, Mark also held several Chief Financial Officer positions at technology-based corporations including Multimedia Marketing Training Solutions, Integrated Marketing Communications LLC, eonDigital, Inc. 4anything.com, Inc. and Tseng Labs, Inc. Mark earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from St. Joseph University as well as received CPA certification in Pennsylvania. Marla R. Milgram Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary Marla Milgram serves as Beyond.com, Inc.'s General Counsel, Vice President and Corporate Secretary. She joins Beyond.com from the law firm of Pepper Hamilton, LLP a Philadelphia law firm providing corporate, litigation and regulatory legal services to businesses, governmental entities and nonprofit organizations and individuals. Before joining Pepper Hamilton, Marla served as assistant general counsel, assistant secretary, and interim general counsel to a publicly traded $96 million provider of global banking, brokerage and wealth management technology solutions and services; divisional counsel to a publicly traded Fortune 500 company and $7 billion provider of products and outsourced services to financial institutions and the real estate industry; and counsel to a publicly traded $6 billion information technology company. Earlier in her career, she worked in private practice, specializing in corporate, international, and technology law. Marla is responsible for all aspects of Beyond's legal affairs and serves as counselor to senior management on matters including corporate alliances, licensing, finance, corporate compliance, corporate communications, and policy for the enterprise. Marla also serves on the Board of Directors and, in that capacity, provides advice and counsel regarding matters of corporate governance. She is also responsible for all legal aspects of human resources, including employee matters, training programs, compensation and benefits. Marla holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in international economics and business management from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from Villanova University School of Law. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar and various academic and trade organizations. Steven L. Kraut Vice President, Business Development Steven Kraut is Vice President of Business Development at Beyond.com, Inc. Since joining the company in 2002, Kraut is responsible for managing the corporate sales and partner development teams, as well as identifying and forming strategic relationships to provide additional business opportunities for the company. Prior to joining Beyond.com, Steven held a Senior Director position at VerticalNet, Inc. where he was responsible for creating new revenue generation opportunities associated with VerticalNet’s career portals. Prior to VerticalNet, he held several senior positions at Reuters and McGraw-Hill. Steven holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rider University. David M. Brensilber Vice President, Strategic Alliances David Brensilber is Vice President of Strategic Alliances at Beyond.com, Inc. David joined Beyond.com in 2006, where his main responsibilities include developing and managing strategic relationships for Beyond.com. David was formerly Vice President of Business Affairs at Yahoo! HotJobs from 2000 to 2006, during which time it was acquired by Yahoo! Prior to that, he was a consultant to EDGAR Online during 1999. From 1995 through 1998, David was Associate General Counsel of TIG Holdings, Inc. and from 1989 to 1995, he served as an associate at Gordon Altman Butowsky Weitzen Shalov & Wein. David received his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. Michael J. Owsiany Director, Strategic Development Michael Owsiany is Director of Strategic Development for Beyond.com, Inc. He is responsible for directing the development and implementation of all future strategic business initiatives, identifying and improving company-wide processes and systems, and providing project management expertise and knowledge across the entire company. Michael’s 18 year career has been focused on Information Technology and Project Management, for both in-house and consulting organizations. For Johnson & Johnson, he managed the Field Technology & Services organization, and was responsible for the deployment and support of all technology solutions utilized by Centocor’s field-based organization. As Information Management Lead, he provided relationship management, technology leadership and project management services to Centocor’s Medical Affairs organization, focusing on Clinical Trial Operations, Medical Education and Healthcare Compliance business groups. At Idea Integration, Michael was Director for Enterprise Application and Knowledge Management solution groups, where he managed a delivery team consisting of over 50 consultants and $5 million annual revenue. Michael has also held positions with eMoney Advisor, SmithKline Beecham and Andersen Consulting. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University, a Master of Business Administration from Temple University’s Fox School of Business and Management, and a Project Management Certificate from Villanova University. Denise A. Palovick Director, Marketing & Communications Denise Palovick is the Director of Marketing & Communications at Beyond.com, Inc. Denise is responsible for directing the company’s nationwide corporate marketing and communications programs including: branding, advertising, public relations, and event planning, as well as the daily management and growth of the company’s partner and vendor relationships. Prior to joining Beyond.com, Inc. in May 2005, Denise served as a Manager of Third Party Solutions Development and Partnerships at Fidelity Information Services, a division of Fidelity National Financial, a publicly traded $96 million provider of global banking, brokerage and wealth management technology solutions and service. Her duties included developing and managing inshore and offshore third party business relationships for the internet banking and outsourcing business channels and leading the company’s third party due diligence program. Prior to that, Denise served as General Manager of Product Management at Rosenbluth International, the third largest global travel management company. She was responsible for developing, marketing and managing several global third-party relationship products and services in the travel management, financial services, messaging services, telecommunications and business incubation channels. Denise also served as Manager of Corporate Communications and Marketing. Denise received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
