If you're looking for a career in green energy utilities, you're probably aware of the opportunities in wind and solar. These careers have gotten all the press with headlines that extol the virtues of free energy. But there are also career opportunities in other green energy sectors. These are the alternative energy jobs in geothermal and biofuels. If you're a chemical engineering grad or already working as a chemical engineer, you may want to consider these exciting new utilities fields. The same holds true if you're working in the utility trades. If you're looking for high-paying jobs in these sectors, there will be plenty to go around, especially hands-on jobs. Geothermal energy companies nationwide will be recruiting drilling rig crews and drillers to drill test holes and geothermal production wells. There will also be a growing need for pipe fitters, welders and a variety of trades needed to build large-scale power plants. Currently, there are dozens of massive geothermal projects that have been funded and under construction in states with an abundance of geothermal resources. Besides the growing geothermal energy sector, job growth is also expected in the biofuels industry. Here, new technologies will be used to harness the stored energy in plant-based resources to create algal biodiesel. This fully exploits the power of algae to produce oil from waste material and CO2. Exciting new "green petroleum" fuels, a by product of cellulosic ethanol, will tap into the stored energy found in waste wood, grass and plant materials. New ethanol plants will rise along with jobs and careers to sustain them.

Great insight on a fast growing sector in the job market Alex. Do you happen to know what areas of the country are hot beds for the drill testing opportunities? It's always nice to get an idea of the geography around the opportunity. Thanks!
