Job Details:
Perform routine husbandry techniques such as maintaining strains of mice and rats; observe and record unusual appearance, behavior, illness or death, complete and maintain forms as required. Maintain records, i.e. census reports, inventory records, purchasing records, including cleaning and changing animal cages, sanitizing and/or sterilizing animal cages, water bottles, bedding per standard operating procedures. Transporting animal cages, supplies and equipment within the animal facility. Also, placing bedding food and water bottles into clearn cages. Conduct general cleaning and housekeeping of the cage wash rooms, animal holding roos, procedure rooms and other service areas.
Position Requirements: Minimum- high school diploma and one year of applicable animal care experience in a research or animal laboratory setting. Duties require manual dexterity, mechanical ability and consciencious attitude and concern for t be capable of lifting and moving cages, feed, supplies and equipment of at least 50 lbs. Ability to operate properly a variety of cleaning, sanitizing, sterilizing equipment (including cage washers, autoclaves, floorscrubber, etc) must be capable of proper handling of rodents and free of animal-related allergens. Prefer ALAT certification or ability to become certified in one year. Must be able to work weekends or evenings, if necessary.
Duties require manual dexterity, mechanical ability and conscientious attitude and concern for animals.
