Title: Business Systems Analyst/Data Analyst Location: Philadelphia, PA Type: Contract Primary Role This contract Business Systems Analyst/Data Analyst will be responsible for directing, evaluating, reviewing, and managing database resources and services across the organization and creates the technical design, installs, monitors, maintains, and performance-tunes production databases. This individual will also act as the liaison between business users and ITS projects during requirements gathering/analysis, process re-engineering, software configuration, testing, implementation and roll-out. Project Requirements - Sets up new databases for development, testing, production environments as needed. - Recommends and documents database design and solutions and provides database development and support to the project team. - Develops testing criteria and conducts system testing. - Provides continual input on database performance and suggests technological enhancements. - Executes change management tasks in systems projects including, but not limited to, communication to key user communities and providing subject matter expertise. Database Management - Ensures the stability and reliability of data access and data quality across the organization via ongoing database support and maintenance. - Analyzes user requirements for reports, forms, queries, and data extraction. - Develops and deploys end-user practices and tools for data extraction, -ueries, and data manipulation in accordance with business processes. - Provides end-user training as necessary with regard to the effective and efficient use of database tools and resources. - Monitors database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implements efficiency improvements. - Creates and documents models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones through data flowcharting. - Assists with the installation and configuration of relevant network components to ensure database access, consistency, and integrity. - Responds to and resolves database access and performance issues. - Advises on the allocation of physical data storage for database systems. - Develops, implements, and maintains change control and testing processes for modifications to databases. - Performs database transaction and security audits. - Provides guidance to junior members of the team. - Routinely provides after hours on-call support for critical systems. Policies & Procedures - Follows ITS policies and procedures including, but not limited to, Change Control, project management methodology, SOX controls. - Identifies and may lead processes for improvement, documents existing processes, identifies and analyzes gaps between current processes and the desired state, designs new processes, develops process performance measures and plans the transition to a new process. Skills - Strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to absorb and present large amounts of detail through various forms of communications to any level of IT management or technical role. - Strong follow-through with little supervision. - Strong technical documentation skills. - Ability to facilitate and lead discussions in a mixed technical and business team environment. - Skilled at conducting research into database issues, standards, and products. - Skilled at presenting ideas in user-friendly language. - Highly self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail. - Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. - Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. - Strong customer service orientation. - Demonstrated skills in database design, data modeling, and data warehousing and specific skills in the required functional area. Requirements - Hands on data analyst experience. - Solid understanding of relational data bases. - Solid understanding of the structure of data. - SQL skills - Data warehouse experience - Healthcare and/or insurance experience preferred. Knowledge - Excellent understanding of server-client computing and relational database environments. - Broad knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices. - Working knowledge of designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers using SQL Server. - Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws. - Strong knowledge of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
