Carpenters Needed! Now Hiring in all 5 boroughs of NYC! The 1199/SEIU Employment Center has full-time, part-time and temporary openings in our member institutions throughout the 5 boroughs of NYC. We are hiring Carpenters, Plumbers, Painters, Mason Workers & HVAC Mechanics. Carpenter Position Overview/Nature of the Work: Carpenters construct, install and repair structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials. Typical duties may include framing walls and partitions, hanging doors, setting windows, building stairs, installing cabinets & molding, and many other tasks. Working from blueprints or instructions from Supervisors, Carpenters: Carpenters first do the layout, such as measuring, marking and arranging materials in accordance with local building codes. They cut and shape wood, plastic, fiberglass or drywall using hand and power tools, such as chisels, planes, saws, drills and sanders. They join the materials with nails, screws, staples or adhesives. Carpenters check the accuracy of their work using levels, rulers, framing squares, tape measures or electronic versions of these tools, making any necessary adjustments. Carpenters employed outside of the construction industry perform a variety of installation and maintenance work. They may replace panes of glass, ceiling tiles and doors, change locks as well as repair desks, cabinets and other furniture. This position offers excellent benefits and a competitive salary!!
