This position will be based in the Naperville, IL office and will provide high-quality editing services on Education, Human Development and the Workforce (EHDW) division assignments and other projects that come through the EHDW Publication Services group to ensure quality assurance.
:
• Provide substantive editing for research summaries, evaluation findings, reports, proposals, marketing materials, presentations, and other documents • Edit research and evaluation materials, with a specific concentration on the accuracy of statistical symbols and text, rewriting where needed to present technical information clearly to a nontechnical audience • Review for clear presentation, full development of ideas, and accurate presentation of research concepts • Unify the writing styles of multiple authors to achieve a convincing tone and effective style • Copy edit for accuracy, consistency, and conformity to internal style guide • Clarify ambiguous expressions and ensure consistency in terminology • Participate in scheduling and monitoring the production of projects • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related area required • Minimum of 10 years of editorial experience required; education arena experience preferred • Minimum of 1 year of experience editing social science research reports or evaluation findings; knowledge of research and research methods preferred • Experience with one of the following styles to ensure proper use of citations, references, bibliographies, and quoted material: MLA, Chicago, or American Psychological Association (APA) • Excellent command of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage; attention to detail is essential • Ability to organize and prioritize work and handle multiple projects simultaneously • Ability to work as a member of a team and independently • Ability to write effectively, clearly, and at an appropriate level for the intended audience • Ability to work under tight deadlines and to see projects to completion
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Flexibility and willingness to work long hours when required to meet deadlines • Ability to work closely with diverse team members on multiple projects • The ability to quickly and accurately move from one style to another as required • Passion for editorial perfection while producing large quantities of work • Ability to work efficiently and quickly in high-pressure deadline situations while maintaining a positive, “can-do” approach
