Electrical Engineer III - V
Bridgestone Americas, Inc. sells tires for passenger, light truck, truck, bus, construction, mining, agricultural, motorcycle and kart applications through more than 12,000 outlets. While we’re known for our tires, Bridgestone Americas, Inc. also manufactures and markets a variety of other rubber products, including building and industrial products, synthetic polymers and fibers and textiles.
We are currently seeking Electrical Engineers III – V to join the growing team at our Nashville, TN facility!
Position Purpose:
Provide BATO Tire Manufacturing plants with process systems and equipment as required to continuously improve Quality and Cost. Be a source of technology and engineering expertise for the corporation.
Description:
- Incumbent makes recommendations to management and plants regarding appropriate goals for projects.
- Once the project goals are established this position acts independently to achieve those goals.
- Decisions made by the person in this position directly affect the cost, schedule, and functionality of major equipment or processes.
- Decisions involving major commitments or items that deviate from approved budget or schedule are referred to superiors or others
Incumbent must possess knowledge of plant processes and equipment along with organizational a leadership skills.
Incumbent is accountable for the definition of scope, design criteria, organization, schedule and control of projects as assigned. These functions are performed in a manner that projects are completed in the shortest time and at minimum cost, meet company objectives and contribute to the survival and profitability of BATO.
1. Project Management – 30%
a. Responsible for reaching agreement with customer on cost, schedule and functionality – each new project
b. Plans organizes and controls major projects – daily
c. Responsible for meeting project goals on cost, schedule and functionality - daily
d. Handles multiple projects - daily
e. Coordinates the efforts of other engineers, technicians, designers and disciplines from other departments – daily
f. Works with manager to secure resources to achieve goals – daily
2. Design and Development – 30%
a. Develops and coordinates designs for process equipment needed for refinement, expansion and modernization
b. Proposes new programs to keep equipment and processes technologically advanced and leading the industry in terms of product quality, productivity and energy efficiency.
c. Evaluates existing processes and equipment and recommends modifications and refinements to save money and improve quality.
d. Assures standard equipment with state of the art technology is used
e. Makes informed recommendations on equipment required to make new design tires.
f. Interacts with SP&S, PED, Plants, and ATC on new tire designs and new equipment designs.
3. Consulting & Communications – 30%
a. Relates plans of operations and establishes priorities for projects.- monthly
b. Provides liaison between the plants and divisional departments - weekly
c. Visits plants to study processes, consult with personnel and make recommendations - weekly
d. Follow-up on recommendations - monthly
e. Represents the Company in contacts with outside suppliers of equipment, services or systems - weekly
f. Writes reports on project status, including initial project plans and goals, monthly tracking of actual results and completion reports. –minimum monthly
g. Serves as consultant to management and plants on technical problems – weekly
h. Transmits information to plants relating to equipment or process improvements in area of responsibility
i. Interacts with PED, SP&S, Purchasing, ATC and BSJ - weekly
4. Maintenance of Expertise – 5%
a. Maintains personal library to include reference books, manuals, technical papers and reports
b. Visits trade shows, technical seminars, and/or reads technical publications to keep abreast of latest technology.
c. Attends selected courses to maintain skills
5. Technology Development - 5%
a. Uses experience, knowledge, and creativity to recommend ideas for technology development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEE or BSEET)
- 5+ years of Electrical Engineering experience in an industrial environment
- PLC programming and troubleshooting experience (preferably Allen Bradley, Siemens or Mitsubishi)
- Motion control experience a plus
- Ability to travel 50% of the time
