Electronic Engineer
Location:Timmins, North Bay, Sudbury, ON
Position Summary:
Reports to Product Manager, Electronics. Responsible for the following:
Responsible for implementing any software upgrades to the Simsbury or other Dyno Nobel electronics plants (including international plants) utilizing DetNet technology
Essential Functions:
* Responsible for implementing any software upgrades to the Simsbury or other Dyno Nobel electronics plants (including international plants)utilizing DetNet technology
* Provides repair and maintenance service locally for all DetNet manufactured electronics control equipment (blasters and Taggers)and for the building and maintenance of all DiPed Shot Tracker hardware
* Responsible for the maintenance of the database tracking all electronics and DiPed equipment in the field either at Dyno Nobel sites or with customers; will manage all software upgrade programs and track their completion
* Will assist DetNet in developing a web-based equipment upgrade project
* Will do competitive analysis reports on all electronic systems and will personally conduct the testing of competitive products
* Will work in conjunction with DetNet and Simsbury manufacturing in improving the cost of manufacturing electronic detonators in North America. This will include idea generation, technical reviews, cost analysis, vendor visits, plant upgrades and changeovers, raw material planning for transitioning to next generation raw materials and training of plant personnel
* Will work in conjunction with Simsbury engineering and manufacturing to improve the manufacturability of DiPed electric detonators. This will include idea generation, technical reviews, cost analysis, vendor visits, implementation of raw material and plant upgrades
* Will work with manufacturing and DetNet to develop lower cost or local vendors for electronics components potentially including wire harnesses, connectors and crimp plugs plus developing local sources for manufacturing plant spare parts
* Will develop, implement and manage annual control equipment returns for routine maintenance and upgrades and will be responsible for invoice generation for those repairs
* Will manage any warranty work done by DetNet on any equipment returned to South Africa for repair including tracking and management of the costs
Other duties may be assigned within the capabilities of the successful candidate, as determined by management.

Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering or equivalent experience
* Experience with Printed Circuit Board layout and testing.
* Knowledge of soldering and/or other methods of attaching wire to PC Boards
* Project Management training or skills.
* History of managing projects and delivering results on time and on budget.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office software. Ability to design and build field test boards from electronics components.
* Training in explosives use and safety requirements in order to complete validation testing of Dyno Nobel products and competitive product evaluation
Travel:
Estimated travel – 20%. Must have a valid passport and the ability to travel internationally on occasion.
