Mazzoni Center seeks to hire a Peer Engagement Specialist to work with its REACH (Recovery Empowerment and Community Health) program. The Peer Engagement Specialist is primarily responsible for conducting outreach, case management and advocacy services with MSM of color whose use of substances places them at risk for HIV and other related health and psychosocial concerns. The primary goal is to recruit and link clients to care and support for their identified needs. In addition to direct care, this position will also entail data input, coordination and administrative duties. Some of the responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: developing and implementing comprehensive targeted community and venue-based outreach plans; providing brief assessments of need to identify potential barriers and readiness to access treatment services; serving as client advocate and directly facilitating client access to services, which may include direct referral to substance abuse services, psychiatric care, medical treatment, case management, emergency housing or other support services; and engaging and retaining clients who are not immediately ready to enter treatment by periodic face-to-face, electronic and/or telephonic follow-up. Qualifications include a Bachelors degree in human services or related field; certificate in drug and alcohol counseling; or HS diploma/GED with a minimum 2 years related experience. Candidates should also have experience with or knowledge of HIV counseling/risk assessment, substance abuse assessment and counseling. Cultural competency to work with groups from diverse racial, educational, socioeconomic backgrounds, and sexual and gender identities would be beneficial. We are also seeking individuals with demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, effectively take initiative, and meet deadlines.
