Description MUST HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF TOOLS USED IN THE CLEANING PROCESS. POWER WASHERS etc.
Operates industrial washers, utilizing steam pressure, degreaser solution, and required solvents to remove dirt, grease and/or paint from a variety of aircraft engine parts, assuring nicks, burrs and rust piles are removed. Determines proper sequence of cleaning processes and time exposure of parts required to avoid possible damage to parts and meet required degree of cleanliness and overall acceptability. Sprays parts and equipment with cleaning solution, operating control valves on the steam pressure cleaner and on the degreasing machine to control the flow of steam and cleaning solution. Mixes chemicals and cleaners in solutions and charges pressure pots. Operates deburring, vibratory and ultrasonic cleaning machines, using specified media to clean the parts. Manually washes and cleans engine parts in tanks of hot or cold cleaning solutions. Hand cleans parts with brushes and other hand tools. Applies corrosion preventive compound by dipping parts in tanks or vats. Operates power driven wire or cloth brush cleaner. Mixes various cleaning and degreasing solutions compounds. Operates bead blast machines using prescribed techniques and instructions when required and utilizing guidance from higher graded employees. Knowledge of appropriate materials and cleaning agents to utilize in the cleaning process in accordance with types of metals and finish required. Knowledgeable of the operation of industrial washers and cleaning equipment. Able to read and follow cleaning manuals, technical orders, specifications, and instructions and ability to exercise care in applying cleaning agents to avoid over-exposure to surfaces. Assignments are made by supervisor with duties accomplished independently in accordance with instructions contained in work requirements and established techniques and procedures. Completed work is subject to spot checks by supervisor for compliance with instructions and quality of workmanship.
Qualifications Requires walking, bending, standing and lifting items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from other workers or weight handling equipment. Work is performed indoors in steam booth and hot and cold line platforms where noise, odors, fumes and steam are prevalent. Incumbent is exposed to burns from caustic solvents as well as danger from falling parts. Subject to cuts and abrasions from handling parts, brushes, air hoses, etc. Required to wear protective clothing and gear such as aprons, face masks, safety shoes, respirators, safety glasses and gloves as working conditions may warrant.
