Summary
According to established procedures, prepares for and performs diagnostic CT examinations by selecting proper positioning and technical factors through the use of whole body scanners, computers, pressure injector and the like for optimal results. Prior to examination, reviews various documents (chart, diagnosis, orders, patient history and the like) and patient condition to determine appropriate CT examination. Administers contrast media, explains procedures to patient/family and allays apprehensions patient may experience. Provides appropriate patient information and documentation and where applicable, discusses test results with appropriate individual(s). Manipulates, analyzes and records data obtained from examination by the use of computers, laser camera and processor. Transmits images/results via designated equipment to appropriate individual(s). Ensures files and records are properly completed in accordance with established guidelines and procedures. Responsible for completing correct exam and entering supplies for charge capture upon completion of exam in RIS system. Performs a variety of related clerical and technical support duties to enhance the efficient operations of the office/department. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition and ensures same is properly supplied for applicable procedures. Ensures equipment is in proper working order. Participates in development of quality control and improvement goals and objectives regarding area of specialty. Provides instruction to students and other associates concerning proper computer tomography techniques and procedures.
Education
Knowledge of radiologic principles, anatomy, physiology, radiation safety, nursing principles, as well as operation and maintenance of imaging equipment as normally acquired through completion of a Radiological Technology Program with Registered Radiological Technologist RT(R) certification or eligible certification within agreed upon timeframe. Previous CT experience or approximately three to six months on-going training necessary to gain knowledge of CT equipment, procedures and cross-sectional anatomy and to become familiar with all MDPH, JCAHO and hospital regulations and standards. Interpersonal and communication skills necessary in order to develop and maintain a wide variety of cooperative working relationships and convey information clearly and consistently through verbal and written medium. Analytical ability necessary to assess patients, analyze data and determine the best method of providing requested tests based on the specifics of each individual case.
