KEY FUNCTIONS

1. Under moderate supervision, conduct laboratory experiments and help establish and validate assays for both high-throughput screening to support target validation and lead optimization of drug discovery projects.
2. Execute routine weekly screening and counter screening assays for several drug discovery programs.
3. Execute standard in vitro screening protocols of novel therapeutic agents and troubleshoot issues.
4. Troubleshoot issues with assay performance, monitor assay quality and data release and capture.
5. Assist in the development and execution of additional biophysical and enzyme-based in vitro assays to characterize lead candidates.
6. Employ safe lab practices.
7. Maintain research records and laboratory notes.
8. Interact closely with other biologists and with medicinal chemists on discovery-based project teams

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree in Science or related field from an accredited university

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, enzymology

Master's degree in a related field, such as biochemistry, enzymology or biology

EXPERIENCE

Required: With Bachelor's degree, two years of relevant research experience. With Master's degree, no experience is required.

Preferred: Hands-on laboratory experience in relevant industrial/academic lab. Strong knowledge in enzymology and biochemistry. The ideal candidate will have had previous experience with multiple enzyme families and assay formats.

Experience in using automated liquid handling and other automation would be beneficial.

Fluency with general biology lab procedures and familiarity with in-vitro biochemical/biophysical assay development for drug discovery.

Experience with spectroscopic techniques and safe handling of radioactive isotopes.

Candidates should have an interest in automation and in learning how to program and operate diverse automated compound screening platforms.

High attention to detail and ability to maintain clear records of experimental work is critical.

Demonstrated ability to work in team-oriented environment. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
