KEY FUNCTIONS
1. Under moderate supervision, conduct laboratory experiments and help establish and validate assays for both high-throughput screening to support target validation and lead optimization of drug discovery projects. 2. Execute standard screening protocols and troubleshoots issues. 3. Employ safe lab practices. 4. Maintain research records and laboratory notes. 5. Participate in integrated drug discovery research teams. 6. Execute standard synthetic chemistry manipulations. 7. Set up and execute a variety of organic chemistry reactions, including those with air sensitive and hygroscopic reagents, to synthesize compounds. 8. Efficiently execute multistep synthesis, and productively synthesize analogs. Perform independently scale-up operations. 9. Perform routine purification of intermediates and final products utilizing techniques such as HPLC, flash chromatography and other related methods. 10. Characterize compounds using analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, LCMS, and NMR. 11. Carry out retrosynthetic analyses to design or optimize synthetic routes to targets. 12. Independently solve synthetic problems, propose viable synthetic modifications. 13. Contribute to the success of the MedChem project by suggest additional targets based on chemical tractability or SAR development.

Required: Bachelor's degree in Science or related field from an accredited university.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in chemistry or Master's degree in a related field, such as chemistry, or medicinal chemistry.
EXPERIENCE
Required: With Bachelor's degree, two years of relevant research experience. With Master's degree, no experience is required.
Preferred: Must have strong synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry background, with knowledge in the latest synthetic methods. Demonstrated ability to synthesize a diverse biologically active small molecules, and to overcome synthetic challenges by optimization of synthetic methodology or through the design of alterative synthetic routes. Ideal candidates will have relevant industrial experience within the pharmaceutical industry and will have previously contributed to a successful medicinal chemistry discovery project. Some understanding of the drug discovery process and the requirements to successfully develop new clinical agent would be beneficial. Qualified individuals will be technically independent in the setting up and execution of organic reactions, as well as the purification, characterization and identification of products. Demonstrated team-worker who possesses excellent problem solving capabilities and can work efficiently with minimal supervision.
