Laboratory Support Tech-Microbiology-PRN (varied) e/o wknd (1300028693) Job Description Laboratory Support Tech-Microbiology-PRN (varied) e/o wknd - 1300028693 Description GENERAL SUMMARY : Creates patient encounters, orders laboratory tests, and prepares specimens for testing. Assists technical personnel in sample log-in, workflow, and specimen tracking, as appropriate for patient age to include neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric adult. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Follows established procedures and policies including infection control and blood borne pathogens. Performs specimen processing including proper identification, aliquoting, special handling and required documentation. Meets defined workload productivity standards. Supports and utilizes LEAN principles and standard work. Maintains accurate filing system for manual test requisitions. Works proficiently with laboratory information systems and personal computers. Follows established procedures and policies to obtain optimal test turn-around-times. Participates in teaching peers. Handles incoming and outgoing telephone calls utilizing good customer service skills and knowledge of the laboratory. Fully understands and is committed to providing quality service to all clients both internal and external. Responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information. Demonstrates the following customer service/interpersonal skills: Takes personal responsibility for work, actions, and attitudes. Respects patients, peers, clients, students, physicians, service representatives and other hospital staff. Demonstrates positive and effective communication skills. Cooperates with peers and other hospital staff to build and maintain an effective healthcare team. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS : Maintains supply inventory and orders additional supplies as needed. Maintains files for blocks and slides in Histology Qualifications . MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED : High school diploma or GED required. Medical terminology and experience preferred. Computer skills required .
