SUMMARY The primary purpose of the Laboratory Technician position is to perform technical work according to standard operating procedures in the preparation and distribution of blood and blood components and provide direct assistance to the professional laboratory staff.
KEY FUNCTIONS 1. Performs all job duties in accordance with established protocols ' Acquires and maintains proficiency in departmental functions ' Independently performs work without undue reliance on others and assists co-workers as time permits ' Keeps abreast of new procedures and policies ' Maintains neat, accurate and complete records according to established policies and procedures ' Readily instructs new personnel and students regarding theories and techniques 2. Completes all work assignments in a timely manner. ' Prioritizes and organizes workflow, meeting productivity goals of the section ' Remains knowledgeable of processes and pre-analytical procedures enabling efficient trouble shooting and problem solving ' Adjusts to daily workflows and assists daily as needed. ' Assists with monitoring and documenting of the sections inventory control system while assuring effective use of supplies. 3. Demonstrates positive customer services skills in all aspects of job responsibilities ' Complies with section's telephone courtesy policies and procedures ' Reports results of problem resolutions to callers in accordance with section's policies ' Demonstrates cooperation when working with both internal and external customers ' Demonstrates calmness under varying environmental circumstances: remains willing and capable of assisting with crisis situations ' Communicates problems with Supervisor or Lab Manager as needed. EDUCATION Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: One year of college in appropriate field providing knowledge of medical terminology.
EXPERIENCE Required: One year of laboratory experience in a hospital setting or six months or on-the-job training in the designated laboratory. Preferred: One or more years of experience directly related to the laboratory assignment.
