Job Description
This position will work as a key member of a high performance maintenance department in supporting production equipment. Responsible for maintaining manufacturing equipment in the Los Angeles Plant to keep it continuously in operation. Perform any general maintenance, under the general direction of the Senior Manager, Engineering identify, plan and direct the calibration and maintenance of new LAMP, Building 8 (B8). Responsible for activities planning in conjunction with the Maintenance Systems Department Planning / Scheduling engineering function. Implement Asset Management Excellence best practice in new Building 8.
•Lead and manage reporting staff, including shift supervisors, skilled calibration and maintenance technicians, reliability engineers, planner/scheduler, schedules, performs preventive maintenance of critical equipment and manufacturing cGMP systems.
•Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of all B8 equipment and systems, such as bulk manufacturing process tanks, centrifugation, chromatography, CIP/COP, HVAC, facility, critical systems and ultra filtration equipment.
•Will provide, lead a moderate level of troubleshooting, diagnostic, repair equipment and equipment components related to positional responsibilities which includes but not limited to I/O cards, devices related to automated process and industrial controls.
•Determine scope, bid, schedule and supervise B8 upkeep services for both year round operations and Plant Shutdown.
•Manage responsible system repairs, upkeep and maintenance within regulatory agency's requirements to include but not limited to L. A. City Building and Safety, AQMD, L. A. City Bureau of Sanitation, L.A. Fire Department, FDA, CAL - OSHA and OSHA.
•Develop reporting staff technical credentials, ensures personal and staffs Training Plan execution and compliance. Attends required training, and meetings.
•Plan, direct and execute annual Plant Shutdown for B8 within authorized budget and schedule compliance.
•Develop and manage department operation expense budget of approximately $2M within defined criteria, and per Plant Sr. management.
•Assist start up, commissioning and qualification activities of new building by developing SOPs, training curriculums and hiring proper maintenance staff.
•Incidentals as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education:
B.S. in Engineering discipline and 8 to 11 years related experience, or M.S. and 4 to 8 years related experience.
Qualifications:
•Must be familiar with facility divisional and corporate operating procedures as related to positional and department responsibilities.
•Must follow safety rules and ensure compliance with L.A. City, CA state and federal regulations and laws
•Require familiarity with generally accepted building, electrical, and fire protection practices and codes to include NFPA, NEC, and UBC in compliance with L.A. City, Baxter EHS&S and FM requirements.
•Display a solid understanding of theories/practices utilized by other disciplines outside primary area of expertise.
•Ability to convince management on courses of action with minimal assistance using both written and verbal methods.
•Effectively operate in and may facilitate cross-functional teams with guidance.
•Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications as specified in Duties and Responsibilities section.
•Ability to read, write and interpret technical documents and instructions, electrical and mechanical drawings, equipment blue prints and piping and instrumentation drawings.
•Must have customer service and leadership attitude to take ownership of any maintenance related problem.
•A self-starter with the ability to work independently and use good judgment. Must be able to handle multiple priorities. Must be proactive, results orientated, and have a strong attention to detail.
•Must have experience in a maintenance function within the Pharmaceutical Industry with computerized maintenance management systems.
•Must understand common maintenance philosophies such as TPM and RCM.
•An understanding of MRO practices is desirable.
•Certification from professional maintenance organizations such as SMRP is desirable.
•Reliability engineering experience would be a plus.
•Delta V experience would be a plus. Physical Demands:
•Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs.
•In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility. Working Environment:
•Must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning. Will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body.
•Physical aptitude to work in cold rooms that can exceed -5oC.
•May be required to work in a confined area.
•No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in the work environment.
•Will be working in a loud area that requires hearing protection and other protective equipment to be worn.
•Will work around manufacturing process chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and celite that may require respiratory protection.
•May be required to work or be assigned to a different shift as needed.
•Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions.
•5% travel.
