Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Department: Laboratory-Onalaska Schedule: On-Call Shift: Days/PMs and Wknds Deadline: Salary: $16.22 Hours: As needed Job Details: The Medical Technician collects and processes specimens following standard procedures, reducing preanalytical variables and ensuring high quality specimens are used for laboratory testing. Demonstrates competency with a limited scope of laboratory procedures, chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic as well as electrocardiogram and spirometry testing. Monitors quality control information and follows performance guidelines to ensure the efficient delivery of accurate and timely laboratory test results and services. Complies with the requirements and standards of regulating agencies. Actively seeks opportunities to stay up-to-date with information relevant to the section(s).
Work Experience: - Desired: 1 year experience in a clinical laboratory.
Skills/Knowledge: - Required: Clinical laboratory knowledge and skills; ability to apply knowledge; anticipate, think and respond quickly. Communicates thoughts clearly and effectively. Maintains effectiveness in varying work environments where circumstances and priorities are changing. Works well as a member of the healthcare team; focuses on the needs of the patient and those caring for the patient and demonstrates courtesy and responds in a manner that is timely.
Physical Requirements/Demands of the Position 1. Exposure to communicable disease, latex, electrical hazards and chemical/cleaning agents. 2. Frequent exposure to mechanical devices, electrical devices, dust, chemicals, toxic waste and infectious disease agents. 3. Carrying and/or pushing and pulling objects weighing less that 40 pounds. 4. Performs detailed tasks, and often subjected to interruptions and changing work priorities. 5. Frequent walking and ability to stand approximately 75% of workday. 6. Visual acuity. 7. Manual dexterity, fine motor skills.
