Job Summary The Orthotic & Prosthetic Unit of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery provides in- and out-patient prosthetic and orthotic services. The facility service hundreds of patients each year who are referred from various UCSF hospitals and clinics, such as those at Moffitt, and SFGH, Mission Bay and, from physicians throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. The technician will lead our prosthetic fabrication lab under the guidance of the director of the Orthotic and Prosthetic Centers at UCSF; will be responsible for the fabrication of both Prosthetic and Orthotic devices and must be trained in the following: socket lamination, assembly of prosthetic componentry, foam shaping, plastic pulling/shaping/smoothing, plaster work, alignment, leather and metal work; will perform maintenance of office inventory, and maintenance of office cleanliness.
Required Qualifications Experience in fabrication of both Prosthetic and Orthotic devices; must be trained in the following: socket lamination, assembly of prosthetic componentry, foam shaping, plastic pulling/shaping/smoothing, plaster work, alignment, leather and metal work; excellent Technical aptitude; good interpersonal and verbal skills for communication with others; able to work as a team; mechanical ability and hand eye coordination to use laboratory tools safely and effectively; ability to read and interpret specification and dimensions; ability to use precision measuring instruments; excellent attention to detail; mechanical ability and hand eye coordination to use laboratory tools safely and effectively; organizational time management and planning skills; good interpersonal and verbal skills for communication with others; meet deadlines; basic computing skills; able to carry/lift and push/pull over 60 pounds.
