JOB SUMMARY
BMT is the adult stem cell transplant unit for the Baylor Methodist program in The Center for Cell and Gene Therapy. Patients are treated for a variety of hematological and oncology diagnosis, most commonly leukemia, MDS, myeloma, lymphoma and solid tumors. The unit cares for patients undergoing allogenic or autologous stem cell transplant, both pre and post care. Patients receiving chemotherapy are also cared for on the unit. BMT is a 15 bed unit with an average daily census of 9.5.

The Patient Care Assistant works in partnership with the licensed nurse to support the delivery of care in an environment that promotes caring and healing. The Patient Care Assistant demonstrates basic knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately and carry out delegated tasks for age specific populations under the supervision of a licensed nurse. He/she records data established by policy and procedure, and reports observations and patient problems to the licensed nurse. The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for assigned non-nursing functions. Has demonstrated competencies or has certification for education of advanced skills such as phlebotomy and stoma care. The Patient Care Assistant practices Relationship Centered Care in concert with The Methodist Hospital values of Integrity, Accountability, Respect, Compassion and Excellence and the ServicePride standards.

Responsibilities include unit stocking/ordering, maintaining patient room environment and assisting the patient in all activities of daily living. PCAs perform a variety of delegated tasks including VS, accucheks, weights, I&Os, ambulation, obtaining supplies, assisting with dressing changes, skin care and mouth care.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 18 years of age
High school diploma or its equivalent is required

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
imum of one year of hospital experience
experience in non-USA country in lieu of PCA experience is acceptable.
3. Current Certified Nurse Aide/Certified Medical Assistant or 3 Years Hospital/Acute Patient Care Assistant Experience

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Basic CPR from AHA (American Heart Association)
Current Certified Nurse Aide/Certified Medical Assistant or 3 Years Hospital/Acute Patient Care Assistant Experience

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Must be able to write and speak effectively in English
Must have basic computer skills
