Phlebotomist, Extern
Temporary and will not exceed 4 1/2 months. Not eligible for benefits. Monday-Friday from 7am to 3:30pm.
Salary: Min. $16,800 to a Max. $25,200
KEY FUNCTIONS 1. Performs phlebotomy procedures in a competent manner. Demonstrates competency via direct observation and assessment for the following phlebotomy procedures: o Venipuncture o Central Venous Catheter Blood Collection o Arterial Puncture o Blood Culture Collection for Bottles or Isolator Tubes o Bleeding Time o Isolation Room Procedures o POC Glucose Monitoring o Age Specific Skills Attends continuing educational programs.
2. Adheres to applicable policies, procedures, and protocols. -Performs all phlebotomy procedures in accordance with the section's procedure manual. -Accurately identifies patient and collects the correct specimens. -Maintains specimen integrity by collecting and transporting specimens in a timely manner. -Accurately performs assignments in registration and accessioning. -Performs and documents quality control/quality assurance. -Accurately performs tests and documents results assuring comments are added as appropriate. -Completes records (electronic and paper) and files as appropriate. -Assists co-workers as required.
3. Complies with all safety policies. -Assists in ensuring a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and visitors. -Utilizes all equipment and supplies in a manner that ensures safety to patients, co-workers and self. -Wears protective attire and personal protective equipment in accordance with regulatory, institutional, and divisional requirements. -Participates in all required safety training. /EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a specialized phlebotomy training program.
Preferred: Associates degree from a Medical Laboratory Technician Program.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Required: None.
Preferred: Phlebotomy certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), American Certification Agency (ACA), and current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
