We are currently seeking a Product Engineer to join the growing team at our Oak Creek, WI facility.
Position Summary:
Performs product engineering development assignments or projects in the development and investigation of new products and technologies, and supports existing product improvements and maintenance. The Product Engineer may work independently, under the supervision of the director of engineering or a program manager to complete a project or other development tasks as may be assigned. The Product Engineer will provide technical assistance and design support to the functional groups as required. The Product Engineer will also manage the development portion of multiple projects in terms of designing, coordinating samples, prototyping, intellectual property, and product testing and validation.
Principal duties:
Supports engineering projects and Business Unit activities through the use of the Product Realization Processes (a gated development process).
Develop or direct accurate 3D models on CAD, bills of materials, DVP&R’s and other documentation necessary for the conceptualization, documentation, validation, release and implementation of mechanical security products.
Ensure product designs perform as intended, are reliable, and are safe for manufacturing and the end user.
Lead design reviews using FMEA and DFM/A techniques.
Develop and oversee the execution of the Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) for products being developed.
Analyzes and interprets engineering data for new products, product enhancements or maintenance
Perform engineering calculations to support product designs
Interact with Marketing, IP team, Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and suppliers to meet the specifications and needs of the customer in the development of new reliable products for the market
Provide engineering and technical assistance to all Product Engineering customers, both internal and external.
Thoroughly documents product designs, project activities, communications, verification results and recommendations as required.
Direct the activities of Designers working on assigned projects
Actively engage in the development and use of “best practices” as it pertains to product development and mechanical lock design knowledge
Education and Experience:
B.S. within the Mechanical Engineering discipline or a related field, an advance degree is preferred
Minimum of 5 years in product design role with exposure to the following areas: small mechanism design, stamping, machined component design, injection molded part design, and die cast part design.
Proficient with Pro/E or SolidWorks CAD platforms.
Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and critical path software (MS Project). Experience with gated New Product Process and Agile software a plus.
Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate to all levels within an organization.
Possess well-developed product knowledge, problem solving skills, and computer and project management capabilities
Pro-active and demonstrates sound engineering qualities
Willingness to travel globally as required
Proficient in “Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance” (GD&T)
Proficient in tolerance stack-up analysis techniques
Knowledge of “Design for Lean 6 Sigma” or equivalent LEAN techniques
