Job Description The Research Associate position in Plant Tissue Culture and Transformation.
Duties/Responsibilities Conducts experiments, to completion, according to specific procedures, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate. Maintains, organizes, and summarizes results of experiments. Operates lab equipment and assures equipment operates properly.
Prepare plant tissue culture media on a weekly basis. Propagate plant materials in tissue culture using good sterile technique. Examine transgenic materials under a microscope. Carry out and optimize plant transformation. Carry out molecular analysis. Record, analyze and report experimental data. Present results to supervisor, in group meetings, and occasionally in company meetings. Plans new experiments in consultation with supervisor. Maintain effective communication with supervisor, group members, and other appropriate teams or individuals within the company.
Educational Qualifications Desired Bachelors degree in agriculture or scientific related field and minimum of 0 to 2 years of industry related experience, or equivalent level of relevant education and experience.
Competencies and Experience Desired 1-2 years academic or industrial lab experience with knowledge of plant tissue culture techniques preferred. Knowledge of and/or experience in the areas of molecular biology is desirable. Ability to sit and work in a sterile laminar flow hood for long periods. Able to learn quickly and carry out repetitive work within a team environment. Communication and interpersonal skills. Positive attitude. May be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as math and computer skills. Broad theoretical grounding and understanding in specialized or technical areas (i.e. chemistry, biology, engineering). May be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments.
