Research Histology Technician $33,600.00 to $42,000.00 SUMMARY The primary purpose of the Research Histology Technician position is to provide technical skills in the preparation of tissue specimens for research experiments.
KEY FUNCTIONS ' Cut paraffin and frozen tissue sections adequate for diagnostic or research purposes ' Perform the following procedures: H&E, embedding, slide and cassette labeling and immunohistochemical staining ' Maintain equipment and prepare solutions as necessary ' Assist investigators and Chief Technician in all requests ' Keep records on work in progress, daily workload recording and QA records
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS ' File blocks and slides ' Observe levels of supplies and communicate to supervisor any need for ordering ' Put away supplies ' Other duties as required
Desired Qualifications: EDUCATION Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Graduation from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) approved school of Histotechnology.
EXPERIENCE Required: None. Preferred: One year of Histology Technician experience.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION Required: Registry eligible for certification as a Histology Technician (HT) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Preferred: Registry eligible for certification as a Histology Technologist (HTL) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
Sr Research Histology Tech $38,400.00 to $48,000.00
Scope and Essential Function (Copy & Paste Here): SUMMARY The primary purpose of the Sr. Research Histology Technician position is to be responsible for the workflow and assist in management of a Histology Research Laboratory and performs technical procedures requiring independent judgment and superior skills.
KEY FUNCTIONS
' Performs all routine histological procedures(to include frozens, micron intervals, thick sectioning, embedding, microtomy and special stains) and in house and outside research requests utilized in the Research Histology Core Lab in a proficient manner, displaying good work productivity
' Performs all Specialized Procedures utilized in the Histology Core Laboratory to include: IHC, TMA, LCM, FISH and CISH molecular pathology staining procedures. Mapping, tissue transfer and 3D image sectioning. DNASE/RNASE preparation and sectioning.
' Assist lab assistants in maintaining laboratory inventories, ordering supplies and maintain proper maintenance on lab equipment.
' Excellent communication skills and friendly demeanor, assist in overseeing lab operations, work priorities and quality control when necessary.
' Works independently, follows standard operating procedures and policies and uses good judgment, particularly those requiring supervisory skills.
' Perform duties from both laboratory sites.
' Assist in student training
' Consults, modifies and/or develops new techniques required by various investigators involved in research activities
' Adheres to and enforces laboratory policies and methodology
' Coordinates educational activities and assist in student training
' Participates in research and development through current literature, workshops and state and national conferences.

Desired Qualifications: EDUCATION Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician program OR Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry.
EXPERIENCE Required: With required education, three years of Histology Technician experience With successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician program, no experience is required With Associate's degree, one year full time acceptable experience in histopathology within the last ten years under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, or eligible), or an appropriately certified medical scientist Preferred: Five years of Histology Technician experience.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Preferred: Registered as a Histology Technician (HT) or Histology Technologist (HTL) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). /
