Job Description The Senior Research Associate will evaluate and implement protocols and techniques to enhance molecular/biochemical characterization of transgenic events and provide molecular phenotyping support to trait groups for gene discovery and product development.
Duties/Responsibilities Conducts experiments adapting procedures as required. Plans new experiments in consultation with manager. May exercise limited technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments. Summarizes experiments, manages and analyzes data and prepares reports. Maintains or improves efficient daily work place operations. Supervises and is accountable for assigned projects and coordinates experiments with other locations. May organize and supervise work of other employees. May operate equipment and assure equipment operates properly.
Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance molecular/biochemical characterization of transgenes for improving drought tolerance, nitrogen use efficiency and yield enhancement.
Provide high-throughput molecular phenotyping support for transgenic events characterization.
Work closely with trait groups to identify areas for improvement and develop, optimize and deploy methods to maximize the efficiency and quality of molecular phenotyping support.
Educational Qualifications Desired Bachelors degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, biotechnology, or scientific related field and minimum of 2 to 4 years of industry related experience is required, or equivalent amounts of relevant education and experience. Masters degree in biological sciences or related field and 0 to 2 years of industry related experience is preferred.
Competencies and Experience Desired Competency to perform activities requiring broad theoretical grounding and understanding of classes of problems in a specified arena (i.e. chemistry, biology, agriculture). Familiarity with computers and statistical analysis. Communication and interpersonal skills.
The successful candidate should have extensive experience in the molecular/biochemical characterization of transgenic events and be willing to work in both high-throughput and discovery research environments. Experience in designing and performing real time PCR assays and conducting high-throughput gene expression analysis is required. Experience with LIMS and operating liquid handling systems is desired. A broad range of experience in bioinformatics, biomarker discovery/validation, transcription profiling, and protein and nucleic acid detection techniques is highly desired. Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment and excellent written/verbal communication, computer and organizational skills are required.
