1 Temporary Vacancy for up to 6 months in Toronto, Ontario
This position will install, configure, maintain and upgrade system technology infrastructure in a Mainframe Environment to meet business requirements for corporate business projects and other initiatives. Support, tune and maintain specific set of complex software environment. Identify and determine system technology infrastructure, such as hardware/network/storage/operating system and/or software to meet business requirements for corporate business projects and other initiatives. Control and maintain the operating platform to provide computer services for internal business users and external clients and monitor and tune system components. Coordinate and implement system/infrastructure changes and upgrades relating to corporate business projects and other internal initiatives.
Responsibilities include the following:
Identify and determine system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility to meet business needs.
Co-ordinate and organize system implementation projects and related activities by collaborating with other Business Technology Services (BTS) support areas such as Network Services, Database Administrators, Middleware Support Services, Application Support, Security Administrators and Service Management.
Install and configure system technology, such as operating systems and software.
Administer the functional ability of the operating environment to provide computer services for internal business users and external clients by assisting BTS Security to customize the system security components; checking predefined thresholds of various system components regularly to ensure stable system performance, identifying and taking corresponding corrective action as required; inspecting, examining and modifying the setup of system to cope with ever changing business needs; performing system cleanup periodically to maintain highest degree of system performance; scanning system logs to ensure system integrity; and fulfilling customer requests where possible.
Support the base infrastructure to achieve the highest degree of system availability.
Maintain systems and software to provide a stable and supported computer environment by upgrading the hardware, operating systems and software on a regular basis; supporting the development and implementation of new application releases; documenting the setup and configuration of various hardware, operating system and software components; writing procedures for the Data Centre staff to follow; creating system policies, standards and guidelines for other BTS support areas regarding setup and implementation.
Improve the reliability, availability and serviceability of the base infrastructure to provide the highest degree of system performance.
Design and maintain Technology Recovery Planning (TRP) best practices and as part of a team, coordinate and schedule activities around the creation, updating and testing of Technology Recovery (TR) plans; representing assigned business areas in program meetings.
Requirements:
Strong working knowledge of z/OS Mainframe Operating System Environment
Well developed understanding of I/T processes such as ITIL, Life Cycle management
Specific ISV product knowledge including CA-CA-1, CA7/11, Top Secret and Dispatch, IBI- Focus, SAS-SAS Mainframe
Thorough knowledge of support, maintenance and functional use of products running in the mainframe environment such as TSO/ISPF, SMP/E, JCL, REXX, CLIST
Foundational knowledge of design and development of computer hardware and software, and programming. Knowledge typically acquired through work experience in a related field and/or completion of relevant post secondary education.
Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles
Ability to solve problems independently, quickly, completely with minimal supervision and to communicate them clearly to other team members and management
Required to provide on call 24/7 support for mainframe infrastructure
