The primary purpose of the Senior Research Assistant yeast position is molecular genetic and biochemical analyses of pathways involved in maintaining chromatin structure in budding yeast.
KEY FUNCTIONS
1. Perform independent laboratory research projects that require knowledge and expertise in molecular biology and molecular genetics of budding yeast. Considerable experience in molecular genetics of budding yeast, and verification of strain construction by PCR is essential. 2 years of working full time with budding yeast previously would be ideal.
2. Maintain detailed and well-organized record of research performed and results obtained in the form of a lab notebook.
3. Performing highly accurate bench work is a must.
4. The ability to communicate effectively with the principal investigator and other lab members during troubleshooting is required.
5. Supervise and train assigned graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, or research assistants in molecular manipulations of yeast as required.
6. Continuing education through reading and researching relevant scientific literature. Verbal interaction with other researchers, both in and out of the lab. Participation in lab meetings and oral presentation of research findings and summaries of research papers.
7. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field. Preferred: Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Three years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. Preferred: One year of experience in scientific or experimental research work with preferred degree.
