Req Number 37067BR Job Title Staff Research Assistant I Job Code and Payroll Title 9613: STAFF RESEARCH ASSOC I Job Code and Payroll Title 9613 STAFF RESEARCH ASSOC I Location Parnassus Avenue Department Name Medicine - Genetics Work Days Monday - Friday Shift Days Shift Length 8 Hours Job Summary Working under direct supervision, the staff research associate I will work in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Nussbaum at the University of California, San Francisco pursuing basic laboratory research on the interaction between PARP inhibitors and various mutants of the hereditary breast and ovarian cancer genes BRCA1 and BRCA2 in cancer cells. Job responsibilities will include performing PCR, running DNA, RNA and protein gels, mammalian tissue culture, and interacting with the flow-sorting facility for FACS-sorting. The associate may have the opportunity to contribute to publications, grants, and to present new findings at national scientific and clinical conferences; training will be provided and the incumbent will also perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education; willing to accept individual out of college with minimum experience; experience with DNA purification; experience with FACS cell death assays; experience with cell culture experiments; experience with Ebi Online purchasing system; proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications; ability to learn new methods/techniques; attention to detail is required throughout most procedures; excellent organizational skills; excellent verbal/written communication and analytical skills; demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability; computer proficiency with MS Word, Excel; excellent writing, verbal, mathematical, and interpersonal skills; excel database maintenance of plasmid, antibody, cell line and chemical database; able to assist with tissue culture, working with specimens and executing aseptic techniques. Physical Demands: Requires bending, climbing stairs, reaching up to shoulder height; pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds; reaching above shoulder level; sitting, standing, walking; fine/gross finger manipulation; repetitive movements of upper extremities; differentiate color; use protective equipment.
