Summary
Performs tasks associated with the maintenance and installation of company communications' transport, signaling, private line and data services. Monitors network and customer facing resources for impairment and out of service conditions. Responsible for troubleshooting, managing and correcting customer service issues. Monitors the performance of the telecommunications networks, including usage, load patterns, and system response.
Essential Duties
*Efficiently and accurately manages customer initiated trouble tickets to resolution.
*Monitors network and customer facing resources for impairment and out of service conditions.
*Provides accurate and consistent customer communication during established intervals using phone, email, and ticketing notes.
*Troubleshoots, manages and corrects customer service issues.
*Monitors the performance of the telecommunications networks, including usage, load patterns and system response.
*Identifies problems and implements changes to enhance system and process efficiency. Mentors and trains junior techicians as needed.
Education and Experience
* Experience: 2+ yrs
* Education Level: High School/GED
* Field Of Study: Telecommunications/Electronics
* A combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
*2+ years in operational support or internet service provider preferred
*2+ years of college or technical school in electronics or telecommunications preferred
*Intermediate level experience and/or knowledge of at least two of the three major technical disciplines: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit-switching/SS7) and TCP/IP (routers/higher-layer protocols)
*Strong analytical skills
*Strong verbal and written communication skills
*Ability to effectively prioritize workload
*Resourceful, innovative, and creative
*Ability to work extra hours as needed
*Must be willing to work on call via pager and/or cell phone, including weekends or holidays to support the operations staff
*Ability to maintain strong working relationships with technical peers
*Provides training to junior technicians as needed
Work Environment
Sits five to seven hours per day. Stands and or walks one to three hours per day. May bend, reach, stoop and crouch throughout the day. Should have the ability to hear, speak and see effectively to perform the necessary tasks of this position. Manual dexterity is occasionally required. The position may require frequent movement and activity relating to using keyboards, viewing data on computer displays, and communicating verbally and in writing to the needs of others. The employee-owner may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions.
