Tool Designer 2\3

Investigates, develops and verifies accuracy of tooling concepts and tooling definitions. Researches tool designs to create and revise tool usage instructions. Prepares tool design or fabrication off load packages. Provides engineering design disposition on tool discrepancies to identify solutions. Develops, documents and maintains complex tool inspection and maintenance requirements. Participates in multi-functional product design reviews to support manufacturing/tooling plan. Works under general direction.

Additional :
The Customer Service Representative (CSR) position provides key support to cutting tool users within the enterprise. The successful candidate will possess the ability to:
--Communicate with cutting tool users within the enterprise. Develop, nurture and maintain strong customer relations. Gain detailed knowledge to understand customer needs, schedules and decision-making processes. Interact with and provide technical input and support to customer defect reduction teams.
--Work with functional organizations across BCA to evaluate impact of program changes and customer requests. Consult with engineering and customers to develop cutting tool design concepts and solutions for emerging technology and production requirements.
--Network with internal and external engineering groups to satisfy customer needs, applying knowledge of cutting tool industry products and services including tool materials, geometry and tool coatings. Provide on-site support to customers and suppliers resolving technical issues and concerns.
--Apply Lean principles and practices to improve customer quality, cost and delivery. Ability to help customers standardize processes and equipment, recommend best practice cutters, design and implement Point of Use kitting to standardize and reduce inventories. Develop automated programs to reduce equipment process time and maintain process and equipment specifications in an automated system.
--Apply mechanical design and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing standards, manufacturing processes and machining techniques. Create drawings or datasets using computer-aided design techniques and drafting standards. Apply knowledge of hole preparations and creation (e.g. drilling, reaming, and boring) and equipment (e.g. power feed, peck) to meeting engineering specification in production parts and assemblies.
--Use Root Cause Analysis to evaluate tool processes. Use engineering requirements to determine tool discrepancy factors and make recommendation to enhance quality, reduce flow time and cost.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics
--The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong interpersonal and presentation skills. Must be a self-starter, innovative, show initiative, willing to take independent action, operate with minimum supervision and be able to coordinate (interact) with all levels of management. Ability to identify issues, develop conclusions and make recommendations.
--Familiar with fastener and hole preparation equipment manufacturers, vendors and their product lines. Understand and demonstrate practical application of mathematical and statistical reporting techniques. Exhibit a working knowledge of cutting tool geometries, materials and manufacturing processes. Proficient in the use of office PC applications (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint). Understand and demonstrate strong Lean Manufacturing principles.

• Engineering Drawings & Specs

Basic Qualifications For Consideration

Do you have at least 3 years' experience drilling & reaming holes in Aluminum, Titanium and Composite structures?

Do you have at least 3 years cutting tool experience?

Do you have at least 1 year of design experience related to cutting tools and their application in a production environment?

Typical Education/Experience
Level 2 - AA degree in related discipline and typically 1 or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Level 3 - AA degree in related discipline and typically 3 or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Job related information
Prefer AA/AS in mechanical design or drafting and 4 or more years in tool design or fabrication, machining or production assembly; or 6 or more years in tool design or fabrication, machining or production assembly. All employees will be on the Boeing Charleston benefit structure. All Boeing Commercial Airplanes Charleston positions require an online pre-employment assessment test.
