Tool and Die Maker
Tool and Die maker. Craft precision stamping, cutting and punching tools with corresponding die bushing using centerless grinder, cylindrical grinder, lathe, surface grinder and spin roll. Tool work to tight tolerance to blue prints. Most work to a tolerance of ••••• inch in M2, A2, M4 and D••••• My duties involved a process from start to finish for the products. From reading the technical drawings to understanding the process to maintain multiple finished surface areas while maintaining concentricity, surface finish, compensating tool size finish for titanium plating and taper. My work at this employer has me crafting parts as small as ••••• inch diameter and as large as ••••• inch diameter. These products must be verified with micrometers, spin rolls, gauges and optical comparators for tight tolerance. As a tool and die maker I must consistently make mathematical calculations to adjust my work incorporating multiple variables such as wear on grinding wheels, coolant tempature and speed.

Although circumstances has not always allowed me to make knives full time I do consider the ••••• years of full time a great accomplishment. I will continue to perfect my craft throughout my life even as just a hobby.

As a custom knife maker I did precision metal work to craft hand made knives in high grade stainless and tool steels. Both fixed blades and folding knives that involved moving parts to a high tolerance. Using plasma cutter, MiG welder, drill press, tap and dies, angle, die grinders and bench grinder, slack belt grinders and forging tools. I have crafted all sorts of knives and tools including custom made dive knives with special wire stripping, wire cutters and prying tools incorporated into the design. I am used to working in high grade stainless steels,tool steels, vanadium alloys and D••••• My work involves crafting to a High tolerance and finishing to a mirror surface. My duties involved me making multiple drawings with varied options for the client, cutting, shaping and assembling the items. Although my work as a tool and die maker involved consistence for the work entailed my work as a knife maker made me flexible and open to new approaches to solve unique one of a kind solutions to prototype projects.
