ABORIGINAL FEMALE PRE-RECRUITMENT COUNSELOR
REQUIREMENTS:
A Female Qualified Counselor to enhance the services for the Candidates to successfully complete the PRTC program. Culture is an essential element of the PRTC program. It is therefore paramount that suitable counselors are contracted to assist all participants in cultural aspects and guidance through a sometime difficult training environment.

SCOPE OF WORK:
The counselor will provide cultural guidance and counseling to all students participating in the PRTC program at CFB Halifax, N.S. The counselor shall be required to support the PRE-Recruitment Training Course during all phases of the course.

TASKS:
a) Interact with the participants of the PRTC on a professional basis
b) Be available to be on call as needed to intervene with any emergency situations
c) Assist participants with the cultural aspect in order to best suit their needs which may include contact with Elders or other community leaders (including but not limited to) assisting youth with personal concerns, home sickness, family issues and providing support should a personal emergency arise.
d) Provide encouragement as well as emotional and social support to the participants of the PRTC
e) Liaison with the PRTC staff shall be required on a regular basis in order to effectively manage issues that arise.
f) Provide advice to the PRTC staff regarding counseling for aboriginal youth who may not fully understand or comprehend the course aims and assist in developing healthy boundaries of respect between themselves and their military supervisors.
g) Provide advice/direction to participants regarding behavioral issues regarding appreciation and respect to other Aboriginal cultures involved with the program, while providing assistance and advice to the PRTC staff regarding potential problems.
h) Liaison with the PRTC staff on a daily basis to receive daily reports on those participants were conflict may be an issue

A full Assessment and Recommendation report along with Incidents and other issues had to be completed for the Military and Aboriginal Dignitaries.
