OBJECTIVE
To obtain a position as a PRODUCT DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
SOFTWARE ENGINEER especially in the area of designing software
for embedded systems, IBM PCs, or other microprocessor based
systems of medium to large scale. Current expertise is in
hardware-software interfacing, such as: device drivers, interrupt
service routines, and other real time critical event processing.
Languages used: C/C•••••, assembler, Fortran•••••, and some Visual Basic.
At this time, due to the depressed marketplace for software engineers,
I am looking for any position in Electronics from small circuit
design, prototyping/breadboarding, circuit debug, hardware
interfacing (low-level programming), circuit repair, or Q/A
testing. I have a very strong background in Digital electronics
design/troubleshooting/and repair.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Logical Solutions Inc., Milford, CT. Aug. ••••• - Nov. •••••
Production/Engineering Technician
Performed setup, test and adjustment of electronic equipment used to
convert PC or Workstation I/O (keyboard, mouse, audio, RS••••• serial,
USB and video) to optical data stream for recreation at a remote
location. Have working knowledge of low power laser operation and
transmission of data over fiber optic media. Used scopes and optic
power meters to tune laser controllers to correct operating levels.
Did Beta testing on new firmware releases from engineering to see if
bugs were fixed or new features worked properly. Created test
procedures for new products for which none were established.
Preformed troubleshooting on units that did not pass operational tests
to the component level and made necessary repairs.
Employment (Non-Career Related)•••••Aug. ••••• - Aug. •••••
Home Depot Employee, Mechanics Assistant
Worked outside the software engineering field while looking for another
software or electronics position.
Cognitronics Corp., Danbury, CT. Mar. ••••• - Aug. •••••
Sr. Software Design Eng. - New Product Development
Designed/coded/debugged driver software for the Mindspeed ••••• SONET
framer chip used in a Broadband (ATM) Automated Voice Information
System. The program was created as a task for VxWorks Operating
System running on a Motorola PowerQUICC II MPC••••• processor. The
program initially configured the framer with user specified defaults,
optionally allowed parameter modification through a host interface,
and periodically obtained or maintained framer statistics such as
transmit/receive cell counts, network performance, and various error
conditions. Also created an Error Logger task for the same OS to
receive error messages from other system applications, encode the
errors into a common format, and send them to the host for recording
and more specific action. Development system was a networked PC
based workstation into a UNIX host environment.
General DataComm Inc., Middlebury, CT. May ••••• - Jan. •••••
Sr. Software Eng. - Product Support & Enhancement
Debugged existing code in currently designed controller software.
Modified or added code to impliment new features or make modest
performance improvements to same. Controller was used to manage
ATM packet data used in a Broadband Switching System for creating
Wide Area Networks. Items managed included: billing, routing,
multicasting, signaling, and bandwidth allocation. Processors
used were the MC•••••xxx and PowerPC. Environment and development tools
were Unix based. Also became knowledgeable in using the in-circuit
emulators and signaling equipment used in testing and debugging
controller operation.
Wray-Tech Instruments Inc., Stratford, CT. Feb. ••••• - May •••••
Sr. Software Design Eng.
Designed and developed software for microprocessor based onboard
weighing systems to be used on large equipment such as: garbage
trucks, forklifts, and payloaders. Processors used were:
Motorola •••••HC••••• and •••••HC••••• Currently working on distributed
processing and networking system using the NEURON - ••••• and •••••
micros. Programming languages used Microsoft C, and Neuron C and
assembler. The weighing systems collected more than just weigh.
Other vehicle parameters such as: road speed, RPM, alarm
conditions, illegal lifts, etc. were also recorded. These
parameters were used to verify correct vehicle operation and
aided in periodic maintainance and route adjust for efficiency.
Axiam/Lorlin Inc., Danbury, CT. Aug. ••••• - Feb. •••••
Sr. Software Design Eng.
Designed and developed Metrology equipment (geometry measurement
system) using IBM PC as the applications platform for precision
motion controlled multi-axis circular/linear measurement gage.
Used Quantums QNX (UNIX style, Multi-user, Multi-tasking)
operating system with Open Look Windows as user interface. PC
was a ••••• - •••••Mhz compatible. Programming language was C.
Used CII C compiler. Other tools used: Edit ••••• (editor) and
SID (Source Inspection Debugger) and have a good understanding
of the PC Bus and Multi-Bus architectures. Did interrupt service
and device driver software to provide real time event handling
of position encoders, timers, analog multiplexers, micro-stepper
control, and data collection. Other programs developed included
diagnostic and calibration utilities for the same system.
Lorlin Test Systems, Danbury, CT. Feb. ••••• - Nov. •••••
Sr. Software Design Eng.
Assisted in the design and development of a multi-tasking, multi-
user, real time operating system using the Intel ••••• micro-
processor, a fixed hard disk, and cartridge tape as system com-
ponents. Languages and equipment included: •••••, •••••, and •••••
assemblers, MDS•••••, and ISIS utilities. More recently, used
DEC PDP•••••/••••• and •••••/••••• CPUs as development and target computers
for current products. Gained working knowledge of RSX•••••M and
•••••M-Plus V••••• operating systems and utilities. Attended DEC
training course "RSX Operating System Internals". I have
performed SYSGENs and NETGENs and field updates to the above
systems. Programmed in Macro••••• and Fortran ••••• and used DEC
program development tools such as: EDT (editor), MAC (assembler),
TKB (linker), ODT (debugger), and XDT (executive debugger). My
primary responsibilities were to provide software interfaces to
our hardware designs and create and maintain programs which were
used to automatically calibrate and test our products.
