History in Brief:
•••••Detective ••••• was entrusted with various responsibilities from an early age. Born in ••••• Detective ••••• grew up with a farming background. He was taught how to operate heavy machinery and to care for numerous animals particularly horses and cattle. Tasks on the farm included the cutting and bailing of hay, picking and chopping field corn, equipment maintenance, and the breaking and training of Draft Horses to list a few. Along with working on the family farm Detective ••••• was a laborer for the family business known as B&B Boiler Company. Tasks there included the maintenance, installation, and repair of steam boilers. Hard physical labor, welding, and fabrication were some of the skills needed to perform these duties. Few know that Detective ••••• cleaned, repaired and installed the burners and gas lines on the boilers located in the basement of the Mercer County Courthouse. He along with a coworker also replaced the traps and zone valves on all of the radiators within the building.
•••••After high school Detective ••••• enrolled as a full time student at Bluefield State College and earned two degrees. Detective ••••• had to complete an internship with a law enforcement agency as a requirement for graduation. This was conducted at the Mercer County Sheriffs Department. Detective ••••• seemed addicted to law enforcement during that time, being that he spent most evenings from ••••• hours to ••••• hours involved in the daily duties and extra tasks of the Mercer County Sheriffs Department. Administration at that time trusted Detective ••••• to assist with investigations and search warrants. They even allowed him to operate police cruisers on certain instances. During this internship Detective ••••• took the Civil Service Test for Deputy Sheriff. Passing this test Detective ••••• was placed on the list of eligible applicants vying for Deputy Sheriff.
After college, Detective ••••• worked full time for B&B Boiler Company installing and repairing boilers for over a year before a position became available at the Mercer County Sheriffs Department. Detective ••••• was then selected for employment and began his service on November, •••••th ••••• From the first day of employment, Detective ••••• was involved in several investigations before being certified. His knowledge and experience obtained during the two and a half year internship contributed to his performance at the Mercer County Sheriff Department giving him more experience than a couple of the officers that were hired before him. Detective ••••• has indicted at least two people during each meeting of the Mercer County Grand Jury since completing training at the West Virginia State Police Academy. Detective ••••• presented a Malicious Wounding case prior to attending the Academy. Each case that Detective ••••• presented to the Grand Jury has resulted in a conviction.
•••••On June •••••, ••••• Detective ••••• began his training at the West Virginia State Police Academy which took place over a ••••• week period. After graduating the academy on September •••••, ••••• Detective ••••• returned to the Sheriffs Department where he began working midnight shift ( ••••• •••••) hours. After working this shift for a few months Chief Deputy Randal Earnest asked Detective ••••• to fill a day shift position. From that point on Detective ••••• worked day shift for approximately four years with Wednesdays and Thursdays off duty. In June of ••••• Detective ••••• was promoted to the position of Detective and three years thereafter was further promoted to the rank of Senior Corporal where he continues to serve the public of Mercer County.
